Round 1 Match Report – South Coast Blaze vs ERNA Hawks

U23s

Our U23s were up first, coming away with a win against ERNA Hawks, 52 – 46. Goal Shooter Ky-Mani Schwenke scored Blaze’s first ever goal in the Origin Energy Premier League, with the Blaze attacking end putting on a strong performance and reaping the benefits of Blaze’s tight defence, which produced turnovers and Hawks held balls.

Opens

Our Opens had a tough loss on debut against the ERNA Hawks Opens side, who are a well-structured franchise and the current reigning Champions. The Opens had a very strong start with Kristina Brice shooting well, missing only 3 goals throughout the whole match. After losing GK Te-Arn Bradley towards the end of the second quarter with an ankle injury, Blaze started to lose its attacking transition but did well for a new group to only be down by 9 at half time. In the end, ERNA Hawks pulled away in the last quarter with the final score 52 to 80.
