South Coast Blaze appoints Opens Head Coach

South Coast Blaze, the new franchise in the Netball NSW Premier League, is pleased to announce that Marji Parr has been appointed as Head Coach of the South Coast Blaze Premier League 2020 Opens netball team and that player applications for the Opens and Under 23s are now open.

Coming to South Coast Blaze from the Panthers Premier League Opens team where she was Head Coach, Parr, brings a wealth of experience to the role, both as an elite international player for Fiji (2003 and 2007), Sydney Swift and an advanced coach. She was the Netball Head Coach for the Illawarra Academy of Sport from 2015 to 2019, and this year’s NSW Assistant Coach for the Under 19s team, as well as a specialist coach with NSWIS.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the inaugural coaching team. To be a driver in the design of South Coast Blaze, by creating a unique and strong coaching framework that enables an elite pathway platform for our regional players from the South Coast, Highlands and South Western Sydney, is an opportunity second to none,” said Parr.

“I can’t help but be proud of our regions player depth and what we have been able to offer the State competition in recent years, and now with South Coast Blaze entering the Netball NSW Premier League franchise, the pathway for aspiring higher performance athletes, is nearer to home than ever before.”

“It is great to see Marji take on the head coaching position with the Blaze. She is certainly a coach with a big future who has the passion and vision to lead this new franchise,” said Jill McIntosh, former Australian Diamonds coach.

South Coast Blaze is now inviting talented players to submit applications to be part of its inaugural Opens and Under 23s teams and help build a new and exciting franchise.

“Here at South Coast Blaze we are looking to build excellence. We are actively pursuing greatness! To successfully build our team we are seeking players who are competitive, committed to our Blaze environment, focused on team goals, can build a strong positive culture, dedicated to conditioning and can be a team player both on and off the court,” added Parr.

South Coast Blaze Ambassador and Committee Member, and former Australian Diamonds player, Susan Pettitt, will play a valued role in the player selection process.

Players interested in trialling can submit their details online before 10pm, Monday 30th September at http://bit.ly/SCBplayer.

The U23s Head Coach will be appointed in the coming weeks.
